April 21st-Evening | START COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS
Have you ever tried counting the little things that you have? 1 Thes 5:18 says, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” After church, we occassionally take our kids out to eat. At an early age they were taught to say short prayers, so I’ll ask my son to pray and thank the Lord for the food. He was about three or four years old then. He started to pray for everything: “Lord, thank You for the plates, the spoons, the forks, the fried chicken, the fish, the rice, the sodas, the water” and on and on and on. When he couldn’t name the served vegetables, he would say “Thank You for these PLANTS”. We couldn’t help but laugh out loud over his prayer for meals.
I’m sure, however, that God was more than pleased with his prayers. He wants us to be grateful for everything that we have. Start thanking God for everything that you currently have – especially the little things – and you’ll feel and see the difference of a thankful heart. As Colossians 4:2 says, “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart”. |
