April 25th-Morning | IT SEEMS GREENER OVER THERE
What do others have that you are envious about? Matthew 27:18 says, “He knew very well that the Jewish leaders had arrested Jesus out of envy.” Envy will always lead us to do the wrong thing. A cartoonist drew two mules in two fields separated by a fence. Both fields were about the same size and each had plenty of the same kind of green and lush grass. Even then, each mule had his head through the fence eating grass from the other mule’s pasture even though they both had fields with plenty of grass. Somehow these mules thought (much like us!) that the grass was greener on the other side of the fence, although that grass was harder to get to. What happens next is that the mules get caught in the wire fencing and were unable to free themselves. When we look at what others have and the failures that we have, envy is birthed and we become entangled by the wrong desires that lead to the wrongs actions. Be content with what you have – it’s probably pretty green right where you are. |
