June 7th - Morning | FOLLOW JESUS
John 21:19
Jesus said this to let him know what kind of death he would die to glorify God. Then Jesus told him, "Follow me."
This verse doesn’t leave us with a choice – just a command. I know a few people will always conclude with Christ’s tragic crucifixion and the demise of His disciples: Matthew was slain with a sword; Mark was dragged through the streets and killed; Luke was hanged; John was scarred in a caldron of boiling oil and was later imprisoned; Peter was crucified upside down; James the Greater was beheaded; James the Less was beaten to death; Bartholomew was flayed alive; Andrew was crucified; Thomas was lanced to death; Jude was killed by arrow fire; Barnabas was stoned; Matthias was stoned and beheaded; and Paul was tortured and beheaded. It may appear tragic to the eyes of this world, but because the disciples obeyed, our lives in the here and now have been changed forever and our destiny is sure. Our destiny is in knowing that when we follow Jesus, this world ceases to be our home – Heaven becomes home. |
